## About

Prince Chapel by the Sea AME is part of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, a historically Black Protestant denomination founded in Philadelphia in 1816. The church has served the La Jolla and greater San Diego community for over 100 years, making it one of the oldest African American congregations in the San Diego area.

**Mission (inspired by Ephesians 5:1-2):** To glorify God by walking in love and building a family of strong believers — a place where people are loved exactly as they are, encouraged to become imitators of Christ, and equipped to share Him with the world.

**Vision:** To be a Spirit-led, Bible-driven family of faith, bound together in Jesus Christ — a unified, praying church so dependent on the Holy Spirit that nothing can stand against it.

## Denomination

Prince Chapel is a congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), the first major Black denomination in the United States. The AME Church was founded by Bishop Richard Allen in Philadelphia in 1816 following segregation in Methodist worship services. It is a Protestant denomination governed by bishops (episcopal polity) with a Wesleyan/Methodist theological tradition.
